MFL Statement of Intent

At St Leonard’s we aim to encourage an interest in language learning in a way that is stimulating and exciting. We intend to embed the skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing necessary to enable children to apply their knowledge in a variety of contexts and lay the foundations for future language learning. Through their learning they will also develop their awareness of cultural differences in other countries.

Do you want to know what your child will be learning in French?

Below you will find a copy of our MFL policy which will give you an idea of what we are aiming to achieve in French at St. Leonard's. You will also find a copy of our long term curriculum map. In our school, we follow a two year rolling programme (as we have mixed age classes). This ensures that children have full coverage of the National Curriculum and do not repeat any topics/learning.

We want to ensure that throughout their time with us, children are building their skills ready for their next stage in learning. Therefore we have produced a progression of skills map (see below). Take a look at the map to see what is expected of your child at the end of each year group.
